OUR CRUISE TO BRANSON

A huge round of applause to our event sponsors, Darrel & Betty

for organizing such a successful event and all the photos.

Good friends, excellent food, an incredible selection of rare cars and period

memorabilia, coupled with two hours of good old fashioned rock and roll.

It just don’t get any better than that!

Thirty-five members gathered in Ozark, Missouri on a spectacular July afternoon to cruise down to Dick Clark’s American Bandstand Theater in Branson for an event packed evening.  We cruised the back roads of Branson to avoid the "tourist" traffic and arrived at the theater late in the afternoon.

The first order of business was dinner (after all isn’t this what we do best?).  Dinner was at the

American Bandstand Grill and the food (both quality and quantity) exceeded our expectations.  In addition to the scrumptious dinner offering was a full dessert menu including Bread Pudding – how decadent can it get!?  The server discouraged us from ordering dessert until we had finished our meals, and when the food arrived we quickly understood why.  All but one member heeded the server’s warnings- but Jerry just couldn’t resist.  Jerry, you are a much better man than I.

Above, we have Jerry saying, "I can't believe I ate the WHOLE THING!"

After dinner, we “waddled” down stairs to view the Patch Collection of 1957 autos and memorabilia. The collection includes one of every make of convertible produced in the United States for model year 1957.  Also included were some very rare ’57 cars and trucks.  This is a very cool display, and I even heard many of the women commenting

on the cars and displays.

Next, it was on to the theater to enjoy the music of Paul Revere and the Raiders and Bill Medley of

The Righteous Brothers fame.   Both put on great performances singing many of their hit songs.  The

lead singer of the Raiders is Bill Medley’s son Darrin who, I was informed by more than one of our

female members, is drop-dead gorgeous (surely that wasn’t Janell yelling “take it off” nah, I’m sure

that it was some woman in another group sitting behind her).

After the show, some of us migrated back up to the American Bandstand Grill for coffee and dessert (did I mention that I am incurably hooked on Bread Pudding?).  Well folks, it takes a lot to keep me up past my 9 pm bedtime, but this was one great evening that all who joined in will remember for some time to come.

See you next month on our trip to Indianapolis Weekend Getaway
