Bowling Green Getaway

May 10-13, 2007

Thursday promised to be a good driving day as 14 bright and shiny Corvette's met at Remington’s for the start of a fun weekend.  All went well through Missouri other than a quick tour of Sikeston trying to find the lunch spot. Bruce B. finally broke the man code and asked for directions. After a solid lunch, and another 2 cars joining, us we headed for the hills of Kentucky. The cloud’s split wide open on US 24 and almost washed us off the road. At times you could not even see the end of the hood. We pressed on and made Bowling Green about 7:30 pm.

Friday dawned cloudy but at least the rain had stopped.  The first order of business was to WASH CARS!!! Following that chore it was off to the assembly plant to have our private guided tour, always a good time. We broke for lunch and as Bruce B. and several others motored South on Hwy 65, a young lady passed him in a late model Mustang. She thumbed her nose at Bruce and off she drove. Much to Sandy’s dismay Bruce NAILED IT and passed the Mustang like it was standing still. Charley R. who was right behind Bruce remarked later that he had so much fun passing that car that he slowed down and did it a couple of more times. 3:30 came quickly and we assembled at the NCM for our private guided tour then stayed after closing for a catered dinner in the dome. We were treated a big loud thunderstorm which was quite a sight through the glass ceiling of the dome.

The next morning dawned bright and clear and Joan S. was able to join us. After the obligatory car wash (it did rain last night) it was off to the NCM for a group photo and connect with Thomas our NCM guide to the Makers Mark historic distillery. We took some roads that were really laid out for Corvettes, what a blast. The next stop was the Whistle Stop Café for a great lunch. There was an issue rounding up several of our lovely ladies, as SHOPPING was upper most in their minds. The comment was made that we need to cut the trip short and SHOP. Thomas was finally able to round us all up and we were on the road once more.

The Makers Mark tour was worth the effort as we once more had a private guided tour. Some of us were able to pick up some samples of the product made there. A great drive home and good fellowship was enjoyed by all that evening in front of the hotel. Sunday brought scatted departures and fond memories of a great weekend.

Joan and I thank each and every one of you for sharing a great time with us.
