One of the first Corvettes in our club that caught my wife's (Robin) eyes last year was a 1959 turquoise convertible roadster. I think her exact words were, "Oh my gosh, we have to have one like this"! Like all of you, we both are Corvette fanatics and realize that all Corvettes are a gift from heaven but, there are certain ones that really stand out. So on a monthly basis I felt it was important to feature and highlight at least one of these cars in each of our newsletters. You might have guessed by now the first Vette featured "In the Headlights" belongs to Richard and Linda B. Here is their '59 story: |
Richard was working at his service station in Arkansas one day in 1966 when a University of Arkansas student stopped by to ask Richard how much his 1958 was worth because he wanted to sell his 1959 roadster. I'm sure Richard gave him a honest figure and before he know it, he had bought another Corvette. At the time of purchase in 1966 the '59 had a raised rear end and lowered front due to the fact that the previous owner liked to drag race from time to time. The paint and body were in pretty good shape. Since then, about ten years ago |
Richard and Linda had the car completely repainted. Last year they installed new carpet, kick panels, new aluminum dash insert, grab bar cover and a new convertible top. For the gear heads here is this car's scoop: 283 cu. in. 245 hp matching numbers motor. It has a posi-trac rear end, two four barrel carbs, a wonder radio with a 4-speed manual transmission. When I asked Richard to share a few words of personal attachment to this car his response was, "Linda and I have owned this car so long that it seems just like part of our family". I am sure many of us share those same sentiments of our own Corvettes, don't We? |
