Vettes on the Rockies

July 26-29, 2007

VINTAGE VETTES OF THE OZARKS WINNER'S CIRCLE

#1 Trophy

Ed & Sue W. received a 1st place in the stock 03-04 class.

"There were a lot of cars on the street show in Frisco, CO.

I would guess there were 80 to 110 cars in my class.

Hope to make next year's show as it will be their 35 Anniversary."

Things remembered from VETTES OF THE ROCKIES trip by Mike & Janell J.

  1. Nine Corvettes affiliated with Vintage Vettes of the Ozarks left Missouri for Breckenridge, Colorado.
  2. Two Corvettes (Dean/Audrey and Alan/Paula K.) left Tuesday, July 24.
  3. Six Corvettes met for breakfast at Smith's Restaurant in Collins, MO at 8:00 am July 25 to fill up with food, gas, and take the northern route.
  4. Joe P. handed out his detailed plan to each car.  Some read it; some didn't, and some still kept asking where we were going.
  5. One Corvette (a 1966 yellow beauty) left Springfield around 7:00 am to take the southern route.
  6. The leader of the six-pack, a black C-6, had a "Valentine" radar detector.
  7. "Red, red, red!" yelled leader over walkie-talkie, and 6 sets of brake lights were visualized before the Highway Patrol was seen.
  8. A red C-6 with a tan top passed a yellow C-5 roadster.  Red C-6 smugly came over the walkie-talkie, "That was 109." (He has that cop sticker on his license plate!!!)
  9. Joe P. planned lunch in Newton, Kansas, at "Breadbasket."
  10. Colby, Kansas, was the stop for the night, a steakhouse dinner, and a "Big, Moose Margarita."
  11. Pikes Peak was finally seen, and a blonde in a pewter C-5, comes over the walkie-talkie, "Does Colorado only have one mountain?"
  12. Garden of the Gods was toured, lunch in the Trading Post, then on to Breckenridge.
  13. Horrendous down pour of rain for many miles before reaching Breckenridge.  1966 yellow beauty said it was a two-towel gusher.
  14. Rooms were assigned, unpacking, parking, and meeting before the buffet.
  15. "Big-bear hunt" as told by Tim S.
  16. A number from the Looking Glass Corvettes, the host club, was given to each entered vet.  Betty S. received a "big beauty!'  Someone might get it at our Christmas party.
  17. On display at the hotel:  2008 roadster, 2008 Z06, a new Callaway, jewelry, shirts, and other car goodies.
  18. Car washing began immediately and continued throughout the stay because of intermittent rains.
  19. First night and morning, many thought they were having heart attacks, flu, couldn't breath, and wanted to go home.
  20. "Drink water, drink water, drink water, and take it easy."  "I want to go home!" Acclimated somewhat by the afternoon.
  21. Friday morning some of the 500+ Corvettes started leaving at 8:00 am for mystery route and Colorado trivia game.
  22. 10:00 am a 1966 yellow beauty lead our tough group up the mountain (fast), with tops down, on the planned hunt and trivia game.
  23. Small bladders caused our not-so-tough group to mutiny out of the portrait line and travel on our own throughout the beautiful mountains.
  24. Lunch in Leadville, head back to hotel, but stopped to quickly put tops up because of rain.
  25. Met before dinner where 760 were served, prizes were awarded (no winners in our group--even though some were accused of cheating on trivia game, but she didn't), and entertainment went until late.
  26. Sunday was a perfectly gorgeous day for the Frisco car show where 539 beautiful Corvettes were on display down the main street in the shape of an arrow.
  27. Skinners had family fan club in attendance. Little grand-daughter "got" to polish the yellow beauty.
  28. GREAT TIME, BEAUTIFUL SCENERY, GOOD FOOD, GREAT PEOPLE--
