Water Rally 2007

June 23, 2007

Hosts:  Karen & Jim C.

On June 23rd, the 14th Water Rally was held for those members that were brave enough to attend! Early morning weather looked as if it might hinder our turn out but the skies cleared, the sun came out and twenty three cars gathered at the departure point, Fremont Hills Country Club, for their journeys through the back and side roads of both Christian and Green Counties.

Of the twenty three cars gathered only twenty one ran the rally which was about an hour and half in length. The two that chose not to run, went directly to the end and gathering point, where they missed answering questions such as; Where can you fine the face in the trees?

Two routes were set up this year with half the cars going in one direction and the half another way. About two thirds of the way through the route, all of the cars were on the same path. This helped with the wait time at the starting point, twenty one cars off in forty five minutes.

The results were close, and it is my understanding that for the first time no protests will be filed with the International Water Rally Commission. The end was at Karen and Jim C’s house where our main course was catered and just about all the members brought side dishes and deserts.

In addition we were joined by four more members in their Corvettes, bringing the day’s total to twenty seven and a new record for the event. Other members who were not able to drive their Corvettes joined us at the end for food and conversation.

And, the winners are...

Third place went to Adam and Tasha, Second place went to Greg and Kristin W.,

and First place award with a perfect score was presented to Dave and Cindy H.

The scoring was close and many old time favorites went down in flames!

Results for the balloon filling were mixed, but at the end of the day the winners

With 31 pounds were Rick and Debbie G.

Last but not least was the “Whippy Balloon Award”, awarded to the least amount of water,

This year a pathetic 2lbs. Congratulations Chuck & Kathy R.

Karen and I have done the Water Rally for fourteen years; sometimes it seems longer when we are setting up the routes! Anyway we want to express our most sincere appreciation to all of the members who support this event  because it makes our efforts worthwhile, thanks and we will see you next year!
